When she came to visit we discussed kitchen sponges. Here's the deal.
1. Buy them from Costco- they are so much cheaper and they will last for a LONG time.
2. Don't let them sit in the sink full of yucky water and food! That totally makes them smell!!! Rinse and SQUEEZE them out after use!
3. Yeast and flour... totally stick to your sponge and it pretty much has to be thrown away after cleaning up dough. So be careful.
4. To make your money last even longer Julia introduced me to cutting them in half.
So here's to cutting my sponges in half!
Another thing my sister enjoys is Ikea! Justin and I just went to the West Covina store last week and got all kinds of fun new things. An activity table and stools for the girls, a dresser for the TV, kid plates and cutlery, glasses, WAY oversized night light for Kennedy and... dinner plates for $0.59 a piece! They were not the plates I HAD to have if I could choose from any, but for $0.59... I got 15!
On a sad note... my clock is offically broken. Julia and I went shopping in Arizona what, 2 years ago? Anyway I found this clock for $29.99 and wanted it so bad, but then thought I'd pass. Lucky for me Julia was there and said, "would you just get the stupid clock. You know you like it." So I did and have been VERY satisfied with it, until it broke. I've used 2 new batteries in one week and the time is never correct. So farewell to my favorite clock :( I hope to replace you with a fancy Ballard Designs model :) click here

ahh and the clock had such a good name too... =(
3 things...
1. did you know that you can buy an el cheapo part at michaels to fix your clock? (although i really like the one from ballard designs, but in the meantime) for a couple bucks you could have yourself a "good as new" big ben ticking clock.
2. yah, i love the .59 plates! heck, the kids can break all of them and i wouldn't care =) yay for ikea
3. in all fairness, the sponge thingy came from rebecca after repeatedly questioning of where she got her "little" sponges. (answer: costco. i went and looked everywhere and couldn't find the small size. duh!!)
Hey Liz, your family is so beautiful. Isn't blogging fun and addicting? It seems like just yesterday you had Kennedy. I can't believe you have 3 kids now! Time flies too fast.
Me and Julia must think exactly the same, since as soon as I read about your clock I'm thinking, "Why doesn't she just go buy a new mechanism?" I think they even have them at Home Depot / Lowes. Now that we've been renting, I'm sure that they are missing me there. I went there for paint the other day (for furniture I rescued from the curb) and I was in heaven. No, we don't need any light fixtures, but it was fun to look...
So, don't give up on the clock! Pay a visit to Visalia and see Virg!!! Brings back memories doesn't it Justin?
I agree fully with the sponge. They can be deadly if they are not properly cared for. Cutting them in half is a great idea!
I love reading your blog, your family is so cute.
About the clock- they still are cute decorations even though they dont work since it looks old, and about having one less child, isnt it amazing how quiet it can be! you guys are so cute- i miss you being here. oh and yes that was me with the super blond short hair.
It was fun seeing you today! I am so sorry about your clock, I know that sounds silly, but I hate when things like that happen.
I love watching the show "How Clean is Your House?" on BBC. Those two ladies are hilarious, and I always feel so much better about my housekeeping. Anyhow, they talked about those nasty sponges and washrags in your kitchen sink before, they say they are safe-havens for lots of bacteria, and to soak them in a small bowl of bleach and "washing up liquid" between uses, this way you don't get the bacteria build up.
I love those sponges, they are the best to clean up your dishes, and counters. Just thought I would share the tip I have found to work great!
