The Outside

I was recently visiting with a friend who complimented Justin and I on our home improvements. I thanked her and laughed because I knew I had yet to expose the outside to the internet. Well here it is! While driving down the street mental notes might include, "Nice, nice, nice, WHOA!! What the?!... nice, nice" and it continues mostly nice. It's so sad even my sweet neighbor (amazingly green grass in her yard) comes over and turns on the sprinklers just because she knew they must work. They do, but I'm not watering weeds and I'd prefer a low-no water yard. We got TONS of desert friendly ideas today and in a few months maybe we'll start putting money aside toward such a project. For now, this is what our neighbors have to deal with:)

Nothing says welcome like a hose...I really think you should string it out across the sidewalk like a threshold. It could be like an IQ test. Anyone who trips doesn't pass. And it could be appearing to "water" the lawn (I'm using that word liberally). Okay, so in my mind it would be funny. It's Halloween season, maybe some police crime tape?? Or some vultures posted on the roof looking at all the dead stuff. Or some fold up loungers with bright neon stripes. Or you could plant a fake ficus tree in the ground. Right in the middle. Or you could use it as additional parking.

Ohhh....even better....I know where I can get some swans....

I think we've got some leftover paint from the previous owners of this house... your more than welcome to the grass-green paint. You can paint your "grass" green, and then it will definitely have your low-water landscaping.

If you really want no water and a care free yard, just go to Walmart and buy some lovely plastic plants and flowers. They will brighten up your yard and all your neighbors will walk by and say "oh what a lovely yard"!

Love the painted grass idea! I totally agree though, it is hard to keep grass green in the desert, and our backyard is full of sticker weeds, and goatheads, so our boys can't even play out there...we so have to take care of that problem because every little boys needs a yard to play in!
